Hansen Outing

We decided to go camping with our family and Bruce's family. We went to the Aquarius Ranger Station above Loa and rode bikes and 4 wheelers on the Great Western Trail. There was water everywhere!

This is the ranger station. There is a propane cook stove, a wood stove, table, hot water, double bed and a set of bunk beds. My kind of camping.

Jesse built this raft under the condition that Logan would try it out with him. Logan and Josiah had to try the freezing water, and got wet. Nicholas and Tiffany tried to fish but they haven't stocked the lake yet.

It took us 4 hours to go 90 miles. The road is very rough but it is a very pretty drive. There is a ranger station and a ranger who lives out here year around. The wildflowers were fantastic! I took about 15 pictures of just flowers.

This is Lava Falls Rapid. It is the biggest rapid on the Colorado River. If you look real close, there are 6 orange rafts around the falls. Some are getting ready to go through them and a couple have gone through. There is also a trail off to the right for those who get chicken to go through the falls. We talked with a man who had run the river two weeks ago.

Mt. Trumball school house. The last day school was held was in 1968. This used to be a valley with 200-250 people living in it. Now the ranches are summer homes for the families. Lack of water and drought forced them to the cities.

The new road by Hoover Dam

Please look at pictures from the bottom up. After 9-11 "they" decided that we should protect our dams and now you go through a security check to cross over Hoover Dam. They are making a new road and then you won't be able to drive over the dam at all. It looks like they are about finished with the bridge part and they are working on the actual road..blasting through the mountain, making road bed, etc. The pictures of Lake Mead and the connected bridge were taken last week April 2010.

All I can say is that the bridge is really high and the river is a LONG WAY's down there.

Comfort Food

When I was traveling to Cedar City the other day, the man on the radio was talking about comfort foods. He explained that comfort foods were foods that reminded you of special occasions and foods that you served at those special times. The kind of food that your brain says the occasion wouldn't be the same without it.

I got thinking about my comfort foods and then my mind started wandering to foods that I related to other people. Here are some examples. Sis. Jean Allen-sweet soup or rhubard rolls, Colleen Faber-boston creme pie, Pearl-raisin filled cookies, Mom-carrot cake, Grandma Esther-bleu cheese. I think that my signature food is pie. What is your?

Our Grand Canyon Adventure

This place is outside Hurricane, Utah. It is Sky Ranch estates. The road you see going down the middle is a runway and the homes have airplane hangers by them, like we have garages. The owners taxi their planes right to their houses.

We have been planning for months to go to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with Carl & Linda Jorgensen. We had planned to take their Jeep. Their son dirtied up the Jeep, so they rented an SUV with a "good" spare. Twenty-five miles down the dirt road we hit a rock and it sliced a hole in the tire. Of course SUV's have passenger car tires not truck tires, and the spare was a "good" doughnut tire. We had no other choice but to turn around. :-(
